Connecting Cultures Solidarity Cocktail at IE University

The Connecting Cultures project, which aims at raising funds for refugees, is hosting its second art exhibition and solidarity cocktail in Casa De La Moneda in Segovia. This event organized by the Student government will take place on the 15th of February at 7 pm.

Last December, the IE Student Government organized a solidarity cocktail and art exhibition for Connecting Cultures at IE University. It is an art exhibition inspired by the motto of the South European International Model United Nations (SEIMUN), which is one of the biggest Model United Nations in Spain, and that took place in Granada in 2017. The project is founded by the United Nations Student Association (UNSA Spain) and the Spanish NGO Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado (CEAR), which has been defending the rights of refugees since 1979. Two Student Government members, Angela Selzer and Astrid Sabrina Bifulco, are also involved in the organization of this unique project.

The exhibition includes art pieces by 21 artists from different parts of the world such as Brazil, Taiwan, Colombia, Cuba or Morocco. Each artwork is centered around the theme of connecting cultures, aiming to show that there are no real barriers between cultures and that we are more similar than we tend to think.

The 18th of December marked the successful opening of the exhibition at IE University. The 4th floor of the Velazquez building was filled with members of the faculty, students, artists and the press. Furhtermore, in the following months, Connecting Cultures’ art pieces will be exhibited around Spain before travelling the rest of the world.

The goal of the exhibition is not only to show that there are no barriers between cultures, but also to raise funds through the sale of the original art pieces, reproductions, or donations in order to help refugees through the spanish NGO CEAR.

This month, the exhibition will be hosted in Casa de la Moneda in Segovia, and will last for four weeks. It is a great opportunity for IE University to take part in this exhibition, which reflects the core values of IE – internationality, creativity and giving back to the community.
