Uber Eats arrives to Segovia!

You might have seen some Instagram stories of friends, new green scooters on the streets or even more delivery people at restaurants. Well, this is why: Uber Eats has expanded to Segovia! And the new app is surely catching the attention of our Segovia Campus students.

Users in Palencia and Segovia can now enjoy at home, in the office or anywhere in their cities their favorite food by downloading the app or through ubereats.com. With a half hour average time for delivery, and more than 20 restaurants to choose from, have IE Students found a new way of eating?

Some students have already been using the app during the two months of launch. Overall, it has received very positive feedback. So let’s see how it works and what is the difference between Uber Eats and other services currently available.

How did we first hear of it?

We interviewed some of our students to see how they made their first contact with the new service. Adimar Hernandez mentions she first found out about uber eats arriving to Segovia through an instagram story of a friend.

Yannik Scheurer, a third-year communications student tells that he first heard about it “by watching a youtube video of 24 hours Uber Eats challenge. Then three weeks later I saw a scooter in Segovia and I was very glad.”

Another student, Prerna Mishra, says she knew about it “from when it launched in Mumbai from my dad. Then, word of mouth.”

More variety, but why?

Students commented on the great variety of restaurants and the user-friendly app. This is because the Uber Eats app has more than 20 restaurants with large restaurant chains such as McDonald's or VIPs and local establishments such as Sushicatessen or Nova Pizza.

“I usually order Asian food because that is the one that Just Eat does not offer” said Adimar.

“I tend to order more when I’m in Madrid, like Goiko Grill or Tierra. In Segovia, Indian like Taj Mahal, or Mcdonalds,” commented Prerna Mishra.

But why does it have more variety of food? This is because Uber Eats works with freelance drivers that go and get the food from different restaurants. Hence, opening the opportunity for restaurants that don’t yet have a delivery service to deliver to clients.

As Yannik explains, “in Just Eat, the app itself doesn't have its own carriers. With Uber Eats, they are freelancers and is much easier to distribute the food, as some restaurants don’t have delivery and now they can,” and then added that “thanks to them I have discovered a new pizzeria and is the best I have had in Segovia. Better than Damario’s or any other.”

When can we have it?

The service is available from Monday to Sunday, from midday at 12.00 to 00.00 at night. Uber Eats has no minimum price to order and, during the first month, the shipping cost will be free on all orders at any time of the day.

Pros and Cons

It is still in its launching phase and facing growing demand from the Segovian community.

Adimar explains that “I don't use it as often as Just Eat, due to the fact that their service is still new and they cancel a lot of the orders due to a shortage of delivery personnel.”

But both Prerna and Yannik explain the perks of Uber Eats. Easy, accessible and reliable.

“It is easy to track your delivery, if there are any problems you can easily chat with them,” said Prerna and commented that, “There is no real difference across countries from my experience. It is pretty standard.”

“You have more details tracking your delivery. When I order I can see where the delivery guy is and, if he is going to the wrong way, I can text him through the app. There is no way that your food will get lost,” applauded Yannik.

Discounts

Also, the more you use it the higher the chances of getting discounts.

In the case of Yannik, who orders around twice per week, he has already gotten an eight euro discount and a link to share with friends.

The Future

Uber Eats has an advantage that could help them greatly understand consumer behavior. It learns from the user’s tastes and preferences and recommends restaurants according to them. In addition, they can check the evaluation that other users have made of other restaurants and filter the options depending on the type of cuisine, price range or the estimated delivery time.

Hence, a great amount of data to make it personalized to you. And perhaps, to sell out to restaurants for advertising. So be aware of the recommendations.

More options for food! More delivery apps for greater market competition, and more reasons to stay at home on a cold day.
