Quality Restaurants for Student Budgets

There are endless number of restaurants to satisfy our cravings. But another issue is being on a college budget that withholds us from truly enjoying a decadent meal through flavor, presentation, and overall ambiance of the restaurant. Therefore, here are my top recommendations of restaurants with a good quality/average ratio for special occasions.

Doki Doki

If you're a sushi lover then Doki Doki is the perfect place for you. Located near Puerta de Alcala is the modern yet cozy restaurant that will leave your mouth watering throughout the entire dinner. Here you can devour one of most fresh seafood in Madrid, without destroying your bank account. My personal recommendations are the unagi roll if you're looking for something sweet yet exotic, since it has eel, and the tuna tartar to truly appreciate the quality of fish that they serve. Last but not least, keep space for dessert and enjoy their delicious rolls!

Perro y la galleta

Next to Retiro Park, Perro y la Galleta is a healthy yet satisfying restaurant. Its cozy yet unique vibe will leave you staring at the dog décor. But mostly at the garden fresh meals that will surely leave your taste buds dancing. I highly recommend the burrata with tomato and pesto, or the tacos covered in cookie paired with 3 kinds of sauces. This is an ideal restaurant to share meals since they are quite small and easy to eat. Don't forget to order the Cake of "mama" with cookie and chocolate, which is known as one of their signature dishes!

Perro y la Galleta additionally serves breakfast ,so don't be shy to give it a try!

Bar Tomate

Bar Tomate is the ideal restaurant to meet everyone's appetite. With its minimalist ambiance, your eyes will be drawn entirely to the food. If you enjoy the taste of truffle, then I would highly recommend the rigatoni. More so, if you're looking for something to share then the tuna sashimi crisps are a perfect option.

From Monday through Friday Bar Tomate offers the tasty special for lunch, ranging from meat to risotto.

Street Xo

This funky eatery created by a three Michelin star chef David Muñoz will enhance your senses as soon as you enter the bright red decor. When going to Street Xo make sure to get there early, since they don't take reservations, and to sit at the bar to truly take in the strong energy of the chefs. Start with their exotic cocktails such as "Diverxio Madrizzz" which is served in a glass as large as your head while releasing citric and jasmine aromas. The menu is quite unique so I would recommend having the waiter surprise you with dishes!
