Charity Fashion Show: Unleash Your Inner Diva
Save the date! On Friday, 29th March there will be an IEU Charity Fashion Show. A beautiful venue at night, music, and models in oil and underwear at some point… and it is all for a good cause. Not only that, but there will also be an after-party to meet everyone.
Keep an eye to buy the tickets, they go out on sale early March. Early birds will cost 15 euros, and they’ll go up to 20 euros. (All profit goes for charity).
Now, that you know the details let’s see what is this all about.
Mathilde Francois, a French exchange student from Durham University decided to start the whole project from scratch.
“In Durham university, we have a charity show every year, it's a massive event that everyone looks forward to going. This year they manage to raise 150,000 pounds for charity” she said and continued to explain that,
“I saw that there wasn’t one happening here, and thought it was a shame as IE people are very fashion orientated and fashion conscious,” commented Mathilde, President of the IE Charity Fashion Show.
This is the first time an event like this happens at IE University. Therefore,
“Naturally, I don’t expect the same amount of funds raised in the Durham fashion show, but if at least we could raise a bit that would be amazing,” said Mathilde.
She hopes that “some students keep it going in the years to come, making it bigger and better.”
The motto that has driven them is “Think global act local, Make a positive impact outside your door.”
This has influenced the selection of brands for the fashion show. Under the ideals of a more sustainable fashion industry and strong ethical values, they have decided to,
“Give the chance to brands that want to contribute in a positive way in the world a place to do it. One of our brands promotes mental health, another one has firm concepts on body positivism and feminism,” added Mathilde,
“90% of the profits from the fashion show, including tickets and sponsorship, are intended to go to Fundación Rais, that eradicates homelessness in Madrid. The other 10% is going to one of the Uniraids on campus,” explained the president.
The reason for this as Mathilde explains is that “We are the future. We need to recognize the impact that fast fashion has on our social-political scene. It really needs to be talked more.”
She states “we need to promote slow fashion and sustainability, to young people. The fashion industry has incredible downfalls, child labor, working conditions, a polluting textiles industry… and for that reason, I’m keen on finding sustainable brands in Madrid,” expressed Mathilde.
In brief, the brands will be locally or domestic, support sustainability and/or strong ethics. But, they will also showcase IE brands into the fashion show.
The nitty gritty: How many people are involved?
The executive team has 15 people, where more than half are in the Segovia campus. The Vice-President Tess Fresonnet helps the coordinator of this campus. There is a creative team, venue, and logistics team… but if you want to know them all go and check their Instagram @iecfs
More than 60 people auditioned for modelling from both campuses. But, the show will have around 40 models, 20 females and 20 males.
What does it take?
“It is an on-going process, I'm learning every day,” said Mathilde.
They said it involved endless aspects of organizational aspect. From booking rooms, music, presence, taking photos for the auditions to,
“Talking face to face with the charities, brands, dealing with the venue, catering ( canapes and finger food), contracts with brands…” replied President Mathilde and added,
“Nowadays all I think about is the fashion show, I’ll be walking to university and listening to music and it would be fashion show orientated to try and find the perfect music for all the walks. My life has become the fashion show and I love it.”
