Weekend Getaways: The Ultimate Guide
Packing for a weekend getaway is nothing new. Ever since we were little, we have been filling our bags for weekend trips. There is no science behind how to pack, but there are many things to consider depending on where you are going.
Imagine you are planning a tropical trip. You want to go enjoy the sun, have drinks, go to the beach and the pool. In this case, you will fill your bags with bathing suits, sunglasses and summer clothes. But now imagine that you are planning a trip to a ski resort. You can not take the same things you would take for your tropical trip as now the needs are different. If you go on a ski trip there are a million things to think about, and you will be surrounded by snow, hot chocolate and indoor fires.
That is why planning is the key for a successful and mesmerising weekend. In this article, you will find seven things to think about while you are packing for your weekend trip that will make your planning process much easier and efficient:
1. Remember the most important items. This point without a doubt is crucial. If you start off by selecting the must-take items, you will be half-way through. Passports, credit cards and medications are the first thing to put your eyes on. Make sure to put them in a place where they can be easily got, as these are the items you will be using the most.
2. Take plastic bags. Plastic bags are a must when travelling, and you can easily arrange the bags in an organised way. I personally put everything on them, from chargers to even jewellery. People also use these to fill in with essential toiletries, such as toothpaste, lotions and brushes. They can be used in several ways, depending on the things you are arranging on them. Since I like organisation, I divide them depending on the items. I would use one plastic bag to put all my chargers, one to put all my jewellery, one for my toiletries and one for my makeup. I do not like combining but if it comes to the case, I would still do it as it’s better than having everything all over the place.
3. Accessories are your best friends. When travelling for the weekend, it’s usual to travel lightweight. This means that when you are picking up what to wear, it’s important to focus on neutral articles to then pick accessories that bump the look up. Accessories are without a doubt the way to go, and it’s impressive how much they can impact a look.
4. Repeat outfits. One of my personal secrets for travelling light is repeating my flight outfit look. I take time to pick my airport outfit as I plan it out in order to take the heaviest items with me. Also, airports are usually a bit cold and chilly, so try to plan everything in advance. This is a true key holder, as you can get to save so much space if you only take a bit of time to prepare.
5. Take your must haves. We all have those 5 articles in our closet that we cannot live without. Those articles are must takes, and as you know them so well, it’s very easy to plan outfits with them. And even for emergencies, they are so comfy and pretty that you can wear them 5 days in a row without even bothering! So consider taking those to make your trip as little stressful as possible.
6. Prepare your visits. Preparing yourselves with anticipation is key for weekend trips. If you are only visiting a city for 3-4 days, it’s very important to know what you want to do. Do some research of the most mesmerising places to go while you are visiting. Highlight those and take a list with you so you do not forget or waste any time.
7. Stay light. When going on weekend trips, it’s important to leave behind heavy objects. If it were to be my case, I would leave behind things like books and would replace them with smaller articles like tablets or smartphones, from which you could read as well if you felt like it. So basically, think things through and try to leave behind the things that would take a lot of space for things that won’t.
To summarise, it’s very important to mention that one of the best tips I can give is for you to be as calm as possible. When a weekend getaway trip is about to arrive, one tends to get nervous, but this never helps and it only makes the process longer and more stressful. Make sure to take deep breaths and get everything ready beforehand to avoid getting nervousness and stress. Then, just relax and enjoy your trip!
