1. Dunkirk: 94 Metacritic / 8.2 IMDb Not exhausting the plot lines that WWII offers, Dunkirk exposes a visceral account of the evacuation of France’s beaches (Dunkirk) in 1941. Jin and Casey find each other in the worst of situations: Jin’s father enters into a coma and needs someone to take care of his alcoholic mother. The best combination of melancholy and hope, the film can only be described in one word: charming.

Named the ‘the year's most exhilaratingly idiosyncratic work’, Okja depicts the fable of An Seo-hyun, a South Korean girl, and her genetically enhanced ‘super-pig’. This film consists of a satiric critique on the many aspects of modern life, from the corporate food industry to cultural boundaries.

The enchanting award-winning story of 17-year-old Elio exploring his sexuality in Northern Italy in 1983.

A realistic representation of the life of Christine, a seventeen-year-old high school student in Sacramento, California, and her coming of age, enduring the responsibilities that becoming an adult entails.
7. Phantom Thread: 92 Metacritic / 8.8 IMDb
Set in the 1950’s in London, the story of Reynolds, a renowned dressmaker, and Alma, a waitress, and the crossing of their lives.

An adaptation of Nikolai Leskov’s 1865 Lady Macbeth of the Mtsesk District, the film envisages a feminist revelation under precarious circumstances for women, resulting as a criticism on the many gender and racial issues.

Based on a true story, the outstanding depiction of jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan´s life and death, and of the relationship with his wife Helen.
