Tips for healthier skin in Winter

Translated by Manuela Vieytez

Winter is arriving quicker than ever to Segovia and Madrid! It is important to take good care of your skin. Our contributor writer, Camila Monguzzi, gives essential tips to keep your skin healthy during the snowy season.

The cold weather and the lack of sun often leaves the skin dry, scaly and dull. Because of this, you should take more care and attention to give your skin bright and ‘full of life’ throughout the winter season.

As we all know, ‘we are what we eat’, and this is also true for our skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body, and it reflects people’s internal health. Therefore, if you follow a diet rich in vitamins and minerals, drink a lot of water, keep our circulatory system active, rest well and nourish our skin, you would also show a healthy and shiny skin.

But, how can I keep a healthier skin during the cold season? Follow these 4 important tips and you would definitely increase your skin’s health.

1. Do not fall into dehydration. Drink a lot of water.

When it is cold, the body usually does not ask for much water. However, when indoors or in places with heating, there is a big tendency towards dehydration. Therefore, it is very important to drink enough water throughout the day. Also, remember that water is essential to maintain optimal moisture and transport nutrients to cells.

2. Use essential oils

Contrary to beliefs, essential oils don’t make your skin greasy, and they do not cause acne. They actually keep the skin balanced and hydrated, avoiding sprouts and premature ageing. Some recommended natural oils are almond oil, coconut oil, rosehip oil and avocado oil. A good practice to include in your night routine is to massage your face with a few drops of oil.

3. Eat fruits and vegetables

In order to nourish your body and your dermis, you should eat all the nutrients you need. Some of the seasonal vegetables and fruits are kale, broccoli, spinach, beets, raspberries, kiwi, pineapple, avocado, orange. Eat these and you’re giving the right fuel to your body and skin.

4. Use natural exfoliates

Our skin is constantly being renewed. Daily we are exposed to a great amount of toxins, and our pores can become clogged. Then, the skin needs additional help to eliminate dead cells and accumulated dirt. A good practice to aid in this process if to exfoliate your skin at least twice a week to keep it radiant and smooth. If you do not have creams, use brown sugar, it works!

By following these four tips, you can improve not only your skin, but also your lifestyle. Also, remember that when you work on your inner beauty and health it is inevitable that you will see changes reflected externally. Take the challenge and live a healthier lifestyle this winter!
