The NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl Sunday
The New England Patriots will be playing the Philadelphia Eagles in the 52nd Super Bowl this Sunday, February 4th in Minneapolis’ US Bank Stadium.
The Eagles have been to two Super Bowls, but have not appeared in 24 years. This will be Tom Brady’s eighth Super Bowl with the Patriots, five of which they have won. This includes last year’s Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons which was marked with a memorable comeback during the fourth quarter.
The final four of this year’s season were the New England Patriots, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have played in four Super Bowls, the last one being in 2009, and have won none of them. The Jaguars have never played in a Super Bowl and have not made it to the final four since 1999. Many believe their performance this season is attributable to LSU draft Leonard Fournette.
The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Minnesota Vikings were defeated on Sunday, January 21st during the playoff games. The Patriots defeated the Jaguars in Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts. This game was also marked by a memorable comeback from the Patriots during the fourth quarter. The Jaguars were up 20-17 with only a few minutes left on the clock. The Patriots then scored a touchdown, defeating the Jaguars 24-20. The Eagles defeated the Vikings 38-7 in Lincoln Financial Field in Pennsylvania. The Minnesota Vikings only managed to score a touchdown during the first quarter of the game.
This year, Justin Timberlake will perform during the halftime show. This will be his second halftime performance during the Super Bowl. His last appearance was in 2004 with Janet Jackson. Other memorable halftime performances include Michael Jackson in 1993, Beyonce and Destiny’s Child in 2013, and Lady Gaga in 2017.
Many Americans also tune in for the famous commercials. A commercial slot in the Super Bowl can cost over $5 million; however, many large companies consider this a reasonable investment since it is one of the most watched TV events every year, averaging at 111.3 million last year.
Super Bowl LII will be held this Sunday, February 4th at 6:30 pm ET (12:30 am local time) in Minneapolis’ US Bank Stadium. Movistar’s Deportes 2 will be streaming it on channel 56, and it will also be streamed in many sports bars around Madrid.
