The Hidden Poem Contest Welcomes IE University

SEGOVIA - The IEU Arts Society called students to take part in the second edition of the ‘Hidden Poem Contest’ last month, a collaboration with Artilugio Productions, Universidad de Valladolid and Antonio Machado Foundation.

The novelty of this year comes with the fact that from the twelve poems that will be recorded, one of them will have an IE University student as an author, while Universidad de Valladolid (UVA) will also contribute with one. The other ten pieces will be open to public participation.

This contest encourages people who love music as well as writing to create 20-verses poems in English or Spanish. The winner pieces will be turned into songs of all genres and the CD will go on Spotify. This way, there will be IEU Music Club and local musicians taking part in its production.

The IEU Arts Society already closed the call on January the 5th and will announce the winner at the end of the month. On the other hand, Artilugio Productions’ call will be opened until January the 20th.

“We try to work independently due that IE University’s academic year ends earlier, but all the poems will be recorded in the same CD,” Fernando Martín, project author and director, explained. “From our part, we are planning to maintain the same jury as last year and to follow a similar process of CD recording, but we depend on the Town Hall in order to approve it.”

The ‘Hidden Poem Contest’ was born as an initiative to target writers who had never published a book before. Fernando Martín is the mind behind this idea that is part of Machado Constellation, a project to mark Sevillian poet Antonio Machado’s arrival to Segovia in 1919.
