The Applications of Blockchain Conference
As the application and overall conversation about Blockchain is exponentially growing, the Finance Club of IE University organized on February 12th an exorbitant event to promote the idea of Blockchain amongst the students.
The “Blockchain Beyond Bitcoin” event hosted experts in the fintech fields such as Miguel Linera Alperi and Pablo Jodar, who represented Blockchain España. The speakers delivered a fascinating presentation about the possible applications of Blockchain and how it’s going to transform the financial industry. Also, they delved into the application of technology in Real Estate and how it will disrupt the multibillion dollar industry.
Pedro Garrido, who has worked in several StartUps in the field of fintech and in socio-political projects, also provided a unique perspective about the application of Blockchain in the legal environment and facilitation of agreements.
In the second part of the conference, the Blockchain project leader at IBM, German Andres Sanchez Cuso, provided insights into how IBM works with Blockchain through case study presentations.
Finally, Michael Kapilkov, a proficient ICO advisor, explained the ubiquity of Initial Coin Offerings', particularly those for Startups, and what they mean to the future of crowdfunding. Kapilkov also familiarized the students with the CREDITS Blockchain Platform, an initiative that he has been working on for the past 3 years. This open Blockchain platform contains autonomous smart contracts and the internal cryptocurrency. It is the first completely autonomous Blockchain system that is capable of performing transactions at record speed.
The students relished the experience and were eager to learn about the future of Blockchain and its potential. Numa Desrues, a second-year BBA student, mentioned that “The conference demonstrated to me the innumerable potential applications of Blockchain and the ubiquity of its functions.” Moreover, Miguel Linera Alperi stated that “Hopefully this conference gave the required knowledge for the students of IE to realize the possibilities of Blockchain application beyond cryptocurrencies.”
This event was made possible by joined effort of IEU Finance and Investment Club, IEU Computer Society, IE Blockchain Club and IEU FinTech Club, and they seek to host several similar events in the future, while pursuing many other projects that will be stimulating to the IE student community.
