Santerra: World's best ham croqueta is IE bound
Last January 24, Salamanca-based restaurant Santerra clinched Joselito’s renowned Mejor Croqueta de Jamon del Mundo award, coming on top of six other prestigious finalists such as the famous La Primera en Madrid. Junior partner Andrés Dos Santos, a second-year BBA/LLB student, comments on Santerra’s vision and philosophy.
Madrid is considered one of the top culinary destinations on a global scale. In recent years, Spanish cuisine has been awarded the most important gastronomic awards and distinctions, and by now it is tough to argue against the fact that it is a member of the global "gastronomic Olympus”.
In the heart of the Salamanca quarter, lies a small oasis of culinary innovation and originality in the shape of a newly inaugurated restaurant by the name of Santerra. By combining the environment of a traditional Spanish “barra de tapas” with an exquisite gourmet tasting menu, Santerra has managed to offer a unique experience through establishing a refreshing take on traditional Spanish culinary culture.
Resulting from the partnership between award-winning chef Miguel Carretero and two Michelin star recipient on-site manager Alfonso Vega, Santerra has revolutionized the Madrilenian gastronomic panorama in six short months, having captivated their customers not only with the taste of their mesmerizing dishes, but with the warmth of their service.
As Andrés Dos Santos clearly states: “Our aim with Santerra is to create an invigorating experience that will make a lasting impact on our customers in order for them to crave to repeat their visit,” something that is evident from the moment you set foot in the venue.
Confirming the success of their innovative strategy and the meticulous care on the quality they aim to deliver, Santerra has been named the place where the best ham “croqueta” in the world is prepared according to Joselito, one of the largest and most renowned ham brands in Spain.
Carretero’s croqueta obtained the first place in the “IV Campeonato Internacional Joselito a la mejor Croqueta de Jamón del Mundo,” where restaurants from all over the Iberian Península competed thoroughly against each other in a scrupulous “cata” which was held the 24th of January.
“It is an honor and a responsibility to be awarded this type of recognition. While it confirms that we are heading in the right direction regarding our culinary objectives, it as well embeds us with the responsibility to satisfy the expectations of customers that will enter the restaurant seeking to eat the ‘best croqueta in the world,’” says Dos Santos.
For those that are curious to visit this new addition to the Madrilenian gastronomic repertoire, Santerra (Calle del General Pardiñas 56, Madrid) is open from Mondays to Saturdays between 1:30pm and 4pm for lunch and from 8pm to 11:30pm for dinner.
