Lawyers in the Making
Have you ever wondered how could you gain professional experiences that would later give you a competitive advantage when applying to top international firms? If so, then the event ‘How to Gain Experience in the First Years of your Law Degree?’ was the perfect place to find all the answers.
The event took place on the Segovia campus, Thursday 25th of January, led by Mr. Carlos Diez, director of IEU Talent & Careers.
After a petition created by 2 student members of the IEU Law Society, Paulina Godynyuk and Barbara Gomez, Mr. Diez took interest in presiding over this event.
Their goal was to organize a seminar aimed at informing 1st and 2nd year Law students concerning the different opportunities available for them to gain exposure to the professional environment.
“I wanted to know the other opportunities that are available to us thanks to the University,” said Sarah Guillaume, a 1st year L.L.B. student.
The university offers a few internships and programs, which were already shown to be very helpful. For instance, the Summer Internship program allows for 2 months of law experience to be acquired.
Whereas the shadowing program invites students to have the opportunity to shadow lawyers in top European firms such as Linklaters, Perez-Llorca and many more.
According to the attending students, the event proved to be useful.
“It reached my expectations. Now, I know that I have many options and we realized that these types of experiences, such as the summer internship program, are very beneficial to our CV," said Pauline Moorkens, a 1st year L.L.B. student, "And that we have to embrace what the university can offer us.”
Many students attended the seminar, but for those who missed out, Mr. Diez showed interest in organizing subsequent events.
“It’s a pleasure to work with highly motivated and smart students. I’m happy to organize sessions like this any time,” he said.
