IEU Student Government Update
Dear IE Community,
It is time for our next Student Government Update! We have been quite busy already in those first few weeks of the new semester. Here are some highlights:
We had our first meeting of the semester with Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Dr. Miguel Larrañaga, and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Antonio de Castro Carpeño. In these periodic meetings we present an update of our work to them as well as bring forward student concerns, proposals and questions. We then discuss all the issues together, decide on relevant dates or future meetings, and try to find solutions to any concerns raised. Moreover, Miguel and Antonio then also inform us about any relevant changes in the university and any concerns they have.
One of the issues we have decided on together is the timeframe for the next Student Government elections. You can find all the information on our social media!
Another topic we brought up in that meeting is mental health and the services provided by the university. As a result, we had another follow up meeting with Taiki Kubota from Mentorship & Counselling and Miguel Larrañaga last Friday to discuss potential ways of creating more visibility for the already existing services at the university.
We have also been visiting various venues for Spring Ball over the last weeks and started to make some arrangements for the big event. More information on that will be coming soon!
More events we are currently organising: excursion to the Harry Potter exhibition, guided tour of the Auschwitz exhibition, Connecting Cultures Charity Art Exhibition in Segovia.
Moreover, we have recently partnered up with Start-up Grind - Google's worldwide community for Entrepreneurs. They have given us discount codes for IE Students to attend their events: Ten 100% discounted tickets per event, using the code SGIEU100.
The rest would be at 50% discount, using the code SGIEU50.
We also organized 3 talks as a part of the IEU Creativity day last Wednesday, inviting professors of design and art to speak about how they incorporated creativity into their life and business.
Furthermore, the plastic bottle cap collection for ADISIL association (Association of the disabled in San IIdefonso) as part of their Drop the Plastic top campaign started on Monday in Madrid and last week in Segovia. The goal of the collection is to raise awareness for the organization and raise money for a wheelchair. So, don’t forget to donate your plastic bottle caps in the blue buckets around campus! It is for a great cause!
And lastly, we put together the entrepreneurship evening in Segovia on the 18th of January. It was divided into 10-15 minutes slots in which six IE student groups pitched and detailed their journey of reaching success within their entrepreneurial pursuits. It proved to be an inspiring and positive occasion for all that were involved.
That’s all for this week’s update! If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us personally or via our Student Government social media channels!
Have a great week!
- Angie & the whole Student Government team
