IEU Athletics Celebrate Campus Clash

On Wednesday, January 30, both IE campuses competed in a sports clash in Madrid which ended with food and drinks.

IEU Athletics Campus Clash is an event that brings together all the sports teams from the two campuses in a full day of competition. It is an occasion to promote the different disciplines offered by the university in a friendly clash day.

The event which took place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. included Basketball, indoor and outdoor Football, Rugby, Volleyball, Tennis and Padel games as well as cheer leading performances and snacks to wrap up the day.

The results were the following:

Segovia Campus won 6-4 in total but the Women Volleyball’s games were not counted as the second game was interrupted before the end.

Alessia Ricchiuti from the Segovian volleyball team states that “it was a super fun occasion to meet Madrid’s teams and after meeting the captain from the Madrid Women Volleyball’s team, we are now planning to organise another game soon.” However, she stated that she feels a bit frustrated that their second game got interrupted: “They did not keep in mind how long a volleyball game can last.”

It appears that the most indecisive games were the Football clashes. After an intense game for the men, the final score was 3-2 in favor of Segovia. Andres Dos Santos, playing as a goalkeeper for the winning team argues that “after Madrid got a red card, Segovia started to play better and a second red card from our opponents helped to score the winning goal.”

In the women game, the score was the same but this time for Madrid’s team. Adrienne Maduro, a Segovian player expresses her feelings about the clash: “We displayed a healthy rivalry and in the end all girls shook hands and we took a picture together. I look forward to future IEU derbies and hope to have more students from both campuses watch and cheer on their teams!”

The day ended with a victory of the Madrid Rugby team which reduced the difference of wins between both campuses. Apart from the unfinished Volleyball game, the event was successful overall. Thanks to all participants in the games but also to the organisation and the students who came to support their peers.
