IE Venture's Day - The entrepreneurial paradise

IE's Venture Day is an event that takes place all around the world but is yet solely organised by our university. So far, it has been hosted in places like Tokyo, Miami, Bogota and Shanghai. However, the most recent one took place in November 29, 2018 in the auditorium of the Rafael del Pino foundation in Madrid.

This event provides the grandest stage for aspiring IE entrepreneurs. Following a welcome by the director of the foundation (Vicente Montes) and the chairman for Entrepreneurship Center (Juan José Güemes), the runner-ups of the three-round competition delivered one-minute pitches.

The first wave saw Barmixta, Omey, Surplus Energy Sharing, EscapeGamePass and Makinaria take the stage. The second wave featured De Origen, Hello English Kids, MasParking, Detox in a Box, NVite and Inventio, while the third wave included the likes of Vital, Vivinium, Receta.me, Koozina, GoodBack and Circles.

In between the rounds, the distinguished IE-made serial entrepreneur, Jorge Schnura, presented his latest e-sports project Mad Lions, and was also part of a discussion panel about the future of the digital sports business later on the night.

After an introductory speech by Paris de l'Etraz, the head of the Venture Lab, twelve innovative and scalable early-stage ventures created by IE Master students fought for a place in the portfolio of 23 investors that composed the jury, and who have reportedly provided a combined total of more than 25 million euros during the last five editions of the event.

The lucky finalists were:

Manara (the winner) - Platform for teaching and liberalizing ABA autism treatment to the parents of affected children.

Stratera - Physical store for Native Digital Brands including events and showcases.

W-Project - Gift boxes that allow you to donate to transparent and real-impact charities.

CleanMotion- Self-cleaning door handles for restaurants and other public areas to ensure elimination of bacteria.

DarFundi - platform for finding and hiring low-skill labour in Tanzania.

Flyxble - Website for booking co-working spaces in South America.

Cargalo - Providing mobile batteries for charging e-cars within the city, either of private or shared.

Offside track - Mobile app for real-time social commentary of sports.

DonBuri - Japanese restaurant to combine cuisine with the manga and anime culture, opening in Madrid.

Barley - Intelligent bars through IOT managing of pipelines.

MCap- Micro-lending mobile platform for Sub-Saharan entrepreneurs.

Cattlewit – A remote cow control that will revolutionize the agriculture industry.

If you are interested in any of them, be on a lookout for their websites (that should be available soon) and in the meantime follow IE Entrepreneurship to stay tuned of any news.

If you have a startup and are wondering how to join this selected group, the best way is to join the Venture Lab in Area 31, beginning this April 2019 and lasting six weeks until June.

However, if you have a more advanced idea founded by an IE student or alumni and someone currently working full-time on it, keep your eye open for the initial applications to the Venture Day competition around October 2019.
