IE Skiers enjoy the slopes in Granada

On Wednesday 17th, a group of 13 IE Students left to Sierra Nevada, Granada for a high-level ski trip and tryouts for the official IE Segovia Ski Competition Team.

The trip was organized by Thibault Apollis, a BBA second year student and Elena Broglia, International Relations second year student. Both worked together last month to plan a 4-day ski trip for students in the Segovia campus.

“The idea was to make a very high-level ski trip and tryouts in Segovia, to see who has a very good level of skiing, so they could join our ski competition club” said Apollis, “I expect that we can find a very good level of ski so I can begin to create an IE Ski competion team.”

Originally, the trip aimed to have an internal competition between IE skiers, but the organizers were unable to collect the necessary funds.

“At first, the Student Life was excited about us creating a team, but then they decided not to help us, so we felt letdown” Broglia said, “Nevertheless, we are going to try to have our best time, and do some other cool activities, and maybe even go skiing during the night to see the sunrise.”

Currently, the attendees are excited for the opportunity to meet other IE students with whom they share the same passion.

“I’m excited about visiting Sierra Nevada for the weekend, we will have so much fun. Really happy to share the ski experience with other students.” said Constance Loyer, one of the participants.

This is the second trip Apollis and Broglia organize as IE students. The first one was in March 2017, where they participated at the Student Ski World Cup and with a group of other 13 students won 1st place in the non-French university category. After this trip, the organizers hope they can find the right people to attend the competition again this year.
