#GameRecap: VB boys with two great wins

IE Volleyball Boys won their two first games of the Segovia’s Municipal Tournament. IE won 3:1 against Segovolley on the 21st of January and 3:0 against Molten on the 28th. The games, played at Enrique Serichol gym, are a fresh start of the season for the Boys team.

For the first game, the starting lineup consisted of Elvinas Jonaitis, Chan-Hao Ho, Volodymyr Lakomov, Nicolás López, Hisham Saad and Ghali Laraqui.

The boys won the first set 25:21, the second one 25:20, lost the third one 18:25 and won the last set 25:21. Even though the game had around 52 serve errors, the boys were able to score 22 aces. Team captain Nicolás López stated that even though game was a little bit rusty, he is excited for the team coming back to the court.

“I am very happy to play again. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the court. Even though the team was not in their best shape, we all want to improve and give our best, definitely looking forward to the season,” said López. “Our greatest strength right now is that we motivate each other and we are very demanding as a team.”

The top scorer of the match was Elvinas Jonaitis with 15 points.

“I think it was the team work and that we played very smart that they help me shine this time,” said Jonaitis.

For last week’s match against Molten, the boys had a different experience compared to their first game, especially because the coach wasn’t able to attend the match.

On the first set the opposing team started serving, but the Boys blocks were on point. They had good receptions, spikes and they only lost one serve. The other team seemed discouraged, which allowed IE to win almost effortlessly by 25:12.

On the second set it was the boys who kicked-off the game, but they experienced some missed serves and bad receptions at the beginning. The opposing team couldn’t spike much at first, which gave advantage IE advantage. Molten soon became aware of the boys' tactics and could narrow down the point difference, but it wasn't enough for them to clinch to the set. The boys won 25:23

On the third set, Molten team served. At the beginning, there was a lack of communication between the boys in the court, but they had good coverage and defense, and even good rally (from both sides). Team captain Lopez asked for a timeout, which allowed them to organize the play and win the game 25:18 with a final majestic Spike by Elvis.

In this match, the top scorer was Hisham Saad, who stated that even though it wasn’t their best game, the team should feel proud.

“I think I was the big fish in a small aquarium. The issue is that we didn’t play very well, and so being top scorer is good, but we are not yet achieving what we want to achieve,” said Saad. “I’m not very happy with today, but is better compared to games we played before. I hope we can practice more receptions, we won the game so we should we proud.”

The boys' next game will be at Campus Clash this Wednesday in Madrid, an IE Athletics event, where teams from each campus will be competing against each other.
