Entrepreneurship Evening Madrid - What you missed
On the evenings of November 27 and 28, the IE community had the pleasure to catch up with the latest student-led start-ups. On the other hand, those young entrepreneurs had a chance to pitch their businesses to a jury of venture capitalists and investors. In this article, I will let you know what a wonderful mix of businesses were presented, in case you missed it.
1. Helbiz
The most advanced start-up among all the ones presented, has its locations in New York, Los Angeles, Milan, Belgrade and Singapore and it is revolutionizing transportation. It is a mix of services that include e-scooters (similar system to the well-known Lime), car rental, drone transportation, and soon, a mobile paying system. They e-scooters are soon to reach Madrid, and for that Helbiz is thinking of different ways to target IE students. Not only are they thinking of having the IE logo printed on their models, but they also considering to eliminate the 1 euro unlock fee , so that IE students pay just as they go.
2. COAX
Trying to find a more exciting breakfast idea than your usual granola bar? COAX got you covered with their delicious chia yogurts , delivered to your home or to university. The two things that might catch your interest about this brand is that 1) They have a circular economy of their pots, enabling you to return the jar you used for it to be recycled later 2) If you order their personalized Box 2, you will not only get 5 pots of chia yogurt, but also 3 toppings of your choice! For those who are lactose intolerant , do not worry, there is an option coming for you soon.
3. The Mane Club
“Grooming enhances confidence” and “a confident man is a happy man” is what the founder told the audience when presenting his business: a subscription box for men's hair products . The personalization lets you pick the products that suit you the most, along with the delivery frequency that you prefer. All products are claimed to be of high quality and ethically produced. (Pssst… the same founder will present his other start-up on the Entrepreneurship Evening in January, read about it here).
4. FLANDA
Ever been to a party by FLANDA? These guys are finding unconventional places where you can enjoy electronic music. Rather than treating it as a means of getting people drunk for them to spend all their money, FLANDA focuses on appreciation of the genre through the organization of different categories of parties (Rave / Lounge / Weakly event) in locations such as a warehouse, airplane hangar or the Blackhaus club. Their events have started to be getting 1000 people by now, and they’ve already secured sponsorships from Puma and Red Bull . Better keep an eye out for their next party!
5. Pantera Bianca
Crowdfunded on Kickstarter, Pantera Bianca eliminates the intermediaries between factories and the customers, and delivers affordable cashmere sweaters , for both men and women. Thanks to its business model, the margin that most expensive cashmere clothing brands establish at 500% goes down to under 50%. The start-up has already won an award of 5000 euros and mentoring. Therefore, it is definitely worth of checking out!
6. ÜGO
This one will likely be appreciated by many students in Madrid, as it is an app that lets you buy your entry ticket to a club... and skip the line! As the founder said, it is like connecting "night clubs and clients with one click" . The app is already running and has around 400 users, while the clubs ÜGO is currently working with are and Goya and Comodoro; however more might come soon.
