IE Spring Ball - Praise and Suggestions
With midterms out of the way and the spring break around the corner, the festivities are about to begin. The first to kick off party mode was the IE Spring Ball, which definitely proved to be an unforgettable night. With 648 members of the IE community registered, the student government at our university has put in determined efforts to channel the 20’s and host an entertaining evening at a reputable location.
The Spring Ball was held at El Principito in central Madrid. A venue that over the past 100 years has been used as a theatre, cinema, cabaret and currently hosts other events. The original architecture has been restored and preserved to continue the story of this building as an emblem of the social and cultural life of Madrid of the past century. This provides the perfect location to host a party celebrating the Roaring Twenties.
As promising and appealing as this event claimed to be, it goes without saying that the student body also has some other opinions to share. The first being the price. The student government could host more informal cocktail parties, without such an exaggerated price. The idea about events like these is for the students to interact outside the academic environment, and it would easily be possible to host events that are not so ‘ridiculously expensive’. The idea of uniting the students from both campuses is a good one, but other parties could certainly be organized that is first more frequent instead of only two major events (Winter/Spring ball) and also cheaper (both are over 50 euros).
Another suggestion would be that more promotion should be used to make the students aware of these events. Some students were completely unaware of the Spring Ball. More clarity on the nominations, who the nominees for king and queen are, and more information on the concept of king and queen as well. It seems students were quite in the dark regarding the ball itself, the nominations and how that works, and the purpose of nominating a king and queen of the night. More information would be more inviting and engaging as well as appealing to students to sign up for an event they know more about.
Putting these observations aside, the student government should be thanked for their hard work and organization, and on behalf of the Stork we hope you had a wonderful night! Also, congratulations to Team Red for becoming the new Student Government!
