Workshops on Campus: Against Gender-Based Violence
SEGOVIA - IE University together with the IEU Wellbeing Center and Regional Government of Castile and León continues to take a strong stand on the sensitive issues of gender inequality and gender-based violence. In the fair terms with the Agenda for Gender Equality 2020, IE University is moving to the next step towards the bright violence-free future by implementing the second series of workshops on Prevention of Gender-based Violence and Direction and Response to Gender-based Violence on campus.
According to Carolina Ferrer Rincón, Adjunct Professor at the IE School of Global and Public Affairs, gender equality is a necessity rather than a luxury that can only be achieved through equivalent protection of rights and equal opportunities. “While GBV is disproportionally affecting women and girls: globally at least one-third of all women have been exposed to violence in an intimate relationship, it also affects men and boys”, - claims Mrs. Ferrer.
IEU Wellbeing Center is planning to host two workshops: one on Prevention of Gender-based Violence, and second on Detection and Response to Gender-based Violence. Both workshops are scheduled during a reasonable time with students’ tight academic curriculum in mind.
“In the Prevention of Gender-based violence Workshop, we will analyze real examples of prevention measures, their effectiveness, current data to understanding the magnitude of GBV globally, as a barrier to civic, social, political, and economic participation”, - clarified Mrs. Ferrer and added that “a participatory learning approach will be fostered, and debates will take place in class about the latest news related to this topic around the globe.”
On the other hand, the Detection and Response to Gender-based Violence Workshop, - Mrs. Ferrer said, - will focus on different techniques of detecting sensitive situations alongside the typical responses from the health sector, police, and judicial system. Through practical exercises, the roots of empathy towards the victims will be developed and explored.
The seminars will be available on campus on March 19 at 16:30 and March 21 at 13:30 at the SG-136.
For students who do not feel secure, who are at a threat, or just need a person to talk to, The Stork advises to consult the Mentoring and Counseling department for the service, available free of charge, and executed by the highly trained professionals from SINEWS – experienced therapeutic service provider.
