IMPORTANT UPDATES ABOUT STUDENT GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

As we move forward with this year’s Student Government elections, both campuses have been caught up in the intense competition between the six teams. However, with so much competition for a chance to lead our school into a brighter future, polemic has been stirring, and have forged new circumstances in which various actors have gotten involved. Here’s an exclusive look at the highlights of our Student Government elections thus far:

March 11th: Teams Blue, Red, Yellow, White, Purple, and Green begin their campaigns around the Madrid and Segovia campuses.

March 12th: All 6 teams sit for a debate panel in Segovia. The Stork publishes its official poll on student perception.

March 13th: Individual teams, who will remain unnamed, make formal complaints to the IEU Complaints Committee. These complaints are against other teams, regarding the believed breach of campaign rules during the promotional phases of the election. These complaints were later gathered into a collective complaint, presented again to the administration.

Following internal, upper-level consideration of these issues, IEU administration decided to alter the rules of the Big Debate that was scheduled to take place the following day, in the following ways:

  • ½ of the time of the debate would directed by the moderator.

  • ¼ of the time would be dedicated to a discussion between the six teams concerning their proposals, giving them a chance to “attack” other teams ideas and defend themselves.

  • ¼ of the time would be dedicated to discussing the actions that each team considers other teams had taken illegally or within ‘the grey areas’.

March 14th: The Big Debate, though still taking place as scheduled in Segovia at 14h, now takes place with all six teams, rather than the original two winners of The Stork’s poll. However, Student Government formally has rescinded its support and participation in moderation.
